The Country Club of Detroit was founded in 1897 by a group of prominent Detroit businessmen when Grosse Pointe was still regarded as "out in the country". It was originally sited on Lake St. Clair, but moved to its present site in 1923 in order to acquire the land required for a first class golf course. The club offers tennis, swimming, paddle
tennis, and bowling in addition to 18 hole and 9 hole golf courses. The gracious Tudor style club house is ideal for dining, private parties, weddings and other activities for its members.

The first golf course in Grosse Pointe was built by the Lochmoore Club,
organized in 1917. An old farm house on the 163 acre site served as a club
house until it burned in 1924. A new club house was built in the same year and
was replaced by a new club house in 1969. Four new outdoor tennis courts were
built in 1969 and four indoor courts with two lounges a pro shop and locker
rooms were added in the early 1970's. The 18 hole golf course has been
completely renovated and re-landscaped. The club house was renovated and
expanded in 1989 to add a mixer grill and men's and women's lounges. The
current membership is 750.
Grosse Pointe Yacht Club

Since 1929, the Venetian styled tower of the Yacht Club has been one of the
major sights in Lake St. Clair. Regarded as one of the best yacht clubs in the
country, the club offers first rate docking and harbor facilities for up to
288 boats up to 100 feet in length. The club also offers a swimming pool,
tennis, paddle tennis, bowling, dining and banquet facilities. Current
membership is about 1,100.

Sited on a small peninsula on Lake St. Clair, Crescent was founded as a club for small sail boat owners. There are
wells for about 100 sail boats and room for about 60 in dry dock. Light meals
are available and no alcoholic drinks are served. The club has about 225
members.

Known affectionately as "The Little Club" the Grosse Pointe Club is located
net to the former site of the Country Club on Lake St. Clair. Founded in 1923
the club house was designed by Robert Derrick, a prominent architect and
designer of the Henry Ford Museum. The club offers 76 boat wells, tennis,
paddle tennis, a swimming pool and junior sailing programs. The club, renowned
for its fine dining, also has casual dining and a snack bar.

Founded in 1911 as the first club in the Detroit area devoted to horsemanship
and riding to the hounds. The hounds are gone, but the club retains its barn
for stabling 50 horses and an indoor riding ring. In addition, the club offers
indoor and outdoor tennis courts, paddle tennis, and a swimming pool. The club
house has been completely renovated and offers dining and facilities for
private parties, weddings and meetings.
